Do you have uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation?

Example of hyperpigmentation

When I was pregnant, I formed hyperpigmentation or melasma around my eyes which are big darkish blotches caused by my hormones. At first, I didn’t care, because it was worth having my adorable boy. Now, they sort of annoy me when I look in the mirror. Whenever I step into Sephora and Nordstrom, the first thing I tell them about is my melasma and ask what they recommend for it. I’m always pointed to a serum or eye cream with vitamin C, because vitamin C aids the skin with its ability to heal itself which includes reducing brown spots. The products in these stores are so expensive, and it takes months of usage in order to see good results! Below are some alternatives:

  1. Anew Clinical Absolute Even Multi-Tone Skin Corrector – This serum has vitamin C. I found this serum does brighten my skin and helps even my skin tone, but it has a slight drying effect possibly due to the salicylic acid, so I follow it with Anew Hydra Fusion Gel Cream. The serum is oil-free, light-weight, has no noticeable scent and absorbs quickly. However, it slightly burns at first, but my skin got used to it. It has 4/5 star reviews at the Avon website. I like the results for the price.
  2. Anew Vitamin C Brightening Serum – 1 fl oz of this bottle contains as much vitamin C as 30 oranges. It doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s hypoallergenic (yay!) and helps brighten my skin tone over time. It has a scent that some customers don’t agree with. This serum also has 4/5 star reviews at the Avon website. Good price as well.

Whichever serum I use, I have to keep using it in order to continue to see its results. Although they don’t completely remove my melasma, they do help lighten it and keep it from getting scary dark, and when I use a serum + full-coverage concealer over my melasma, the blotches stay light colored.

Which body lotion works well for dry, sensitive skin?

If you haven’t read my previous blog post, I technically prefer to use Skin So Soft Original Gelled Body Oil and the Supreme Nourishment Triple Phase body oil during the dry Fall season. I don’t drink enough water, so my skin turns ashy dry if I don’t moisturize everyday. Using the body oil guarantees my skin won’t turn itchy and dry all day.

However, if I didn’t have my Skin So Soft body oils, the next best thing for my dry, sensitive is the Skin So Soft Supreme Nourishment Enriching Coconut Oil Milk Lotion. Here’s why:

  • The nourishing coconut oil ingredient helps keeps my skin moisturized for hours.
  • It doesn’t leave my skin greasy. It actually gets fully absorbed into my skin and leaves my skin supple. Yes, I can opt to apply pure coconut oil to my skin (and I have), but pure coconut oil leaves my skin greasy.
  • Avon isn’t kidding when they call it “…Coconut Oil Milk Lotion.” It doesn’t have the thickness of regular body lotion – it’s light-weight. The “Coconut Oil Milk” lotion is more milky and actually pours from the bottle from a small opening.
  • The light tropical scent is nice and not strong.
  • It’s hypoallergenic.

I think, you’ll find that the Skin So Soft Supreme Nourishment Enriching Coconut Oil Milk Lotion is beneficial for the dry season.

Don’t like fragrance in your body lotion?

Avon Moisture Therapy Calming Relief is fragrance free, hypoallergenic and contains soothing colloidal oatmeal which instantly relieves to dry, itchy skin. It doesn’t leave a greasy residue and absorbs quickly into the skin. Avon offers the hand cream (I keep one in my car!) and also a 1L (33.8 fl oz) bottle of the body lotion which is a better value!

What is K-beauty and Cica?

K-Beauty

If you’re not familiar with Korean Beauty or K-beauty, South Korea is known for raising the bar when it comes to skin care products, because they “favor glowing glass skin over layers of foundation.” K-beauty is known to be ahead of the curve and the leaders in skin care, using cutting-edge technology, luxurious formulas and trend-setting ingredients.

Cica

Cica is known as “Tiger grass,” because it has been observed that tigers roll around and rub their wounds in cica to heal their wounds. Although Cica is new in cosmetics, I learned that Cica has been used for a while in Chinese medicine. Therefore, it’s healing quality has been known for a while.

Cica is more than just a trendy beauty ingredient—it’s known

to relieve irritated skin, strengthen the skin barrier and gently moisturize.

In fact, cica was named “tiger grass” after tigers were

discovered rolling in it to heal their wounds.

Is your body lotion just not keeping your skin moisturized all day?

The weather is dry, and my lotion isn’t keep my skin moisturized all day anymore. I normally prefer to use non-greasy, sensitive skin body lotion, because it is not enough during the dry season. Having dry, itchy skin was getting uncomfortable, so I switched to body oils.

I’m currently using the following, because I don’t normally take baths in order to use bath oils:

  • Skin So Soft Original Scent Gelled Body Oil – Contains jojoba oil which is the “closest thing out there to your skin’s own oil.” The gelled body oil is portable and easy to re-apply after washing my hands. It doesn’t spill and the bottle doesn’t get greasy. The gelled body oil leaves no greasy residue. It has a fresh, herbal scent.
  • Skin So Soft Triple Phase Body Oil (suitable for sensitive skin) – Contains vitamin E and Argan, Babassu, Macadamia Nut and Sunflower Seed oils. It moisturizes and seals the moisture into your skin. It is in liquid form but comes in a clever bottle with a 1.5mm-2.0mm opening so that you can get just the right amount in your palms without spilling or over-pouring. It has a vanilla scent.

With these body oils, my skin can go all day and night without going dry, itchy and ashy. I rub the body oils into my skin right after getting out of the shower + towel drying so that the oils absorb into my skin well and lock in the moisture from my shower.

Is your face sensitive and dry during the Fall season?

Skin care is so much more important than makeup.

— Halima Aden

Right now, the weather is dry and warm (Fall season). Therefore, my skin needs extra hydration and protection from UV rays. I wear sunblock everyday. (I live in California, and us Californians need to wear sunblock even when we’re indoors). My skin is mostly dry around my nose, mouth and cheeks, and my cheeks are sensitive and pink. If I don’t cleanse my face well, I usually break out on my cheeks and forehead.

Dry, sensitive skin care products for the Fall season that work for me:

  1. I remove makeup with the Anew Hydra Fusion Micellar Cleansing Water. It’s refreshing, has vitamin E and antioxidants, and is hypoallergenic. Don’t get it in your eyes, because it will burn! If you need to remove makeup from your eyes, use Avon True Color Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Lotion. It’s gentle on the eyes.

Another good makeup remover is the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Facial Wipes. This is best for on-the-go and removes makeup well (even waterproof makeup) and doesn’t leave my skin dry. One package contains 50 sheets.
  2. Anew Ultimate Cream Cleanser – After removing my makeup, I use this cream cleanser. This creamy cleanser is richly hydrating and leaves my skin buttery-soft. It doesn’t foam or create suds like regular cleansers and soaps. I massage it onto dry skin to remove dirt, oils, then rinse off with warm water. My skin is left feeling hydrated, soft and not tight at all.

If my skin feels extra dirty or oily in the T-zone, then I use the Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser. It leaves my skin squeaky clean, but because I have sensitive, dry skin during the Fall, I can’t use it both day and night everyday. It foams up well, and a little goes a long way. It comes in a big 11 fl oz bottle.
  3. Anew Hydra Fusion Gel Cream – I like this refreshing gel cream, because it provides 72-hours of long-lasting hydration (contains hyaluronic acid – a super hydrator that is naturally in our skin but lost over time), locks in moisture, is non-greasy and hypoallergenic. My skin is left supple and it doesn’t cause my skin to breakout. The gel cream feels like aloe gel but unlike aloe gel, after Hydra Fusion Gel Cream dries, my skin is still feels hydrated. (When aloe gel dries, the skin is left dry). I’ve actually used the Hydra Fusion Gel Cream on sun-burned skin, and it felt soothing. It is hypoallergenic!
  4. Anew Clinical Eye Lift Pro Dual Eye System – This is a 2 in one product. The Arginine gel goes on your upper eye lid and upper orbital bone, and the cream goes on the under eye area and lower orbital bone. It firms, lifts and reduces crows feet wrinkles. It is suitable for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. I can wear this all day, and my eyes never get irritated and never burn.
  5. Anew Skinvincible Day Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 – This is the best facial moisturizer for me, because it gives me the UV protection that I need (I’ve actually sat on the beach for 2 hours with just this moisturizer on my face, and my face did NOT burn while other un-protected areas of my skin did burn), is suitable for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and oil-free. It does contain a little bit of retinol but not enough to irritate my skin. Best of all, it doesn’t leave my face looking or feeling greasy.
  6. Anew Skinvincible Deep Recovery Cream – Yes, I cannot leave my skin bare at night during the Fall season. The air is so dry! After I cleanse my face, I apply this night cream for protective moisture. It is fragrance-free, suitable for sensitive skin and doesn’t cause me breakouts! Yes, I cannot live without moisturizers.

There will be new Korean beauty products that will arrive from Avon in collaboration with The Face Shop (a Korean beauty company) which they call Avon X The Face Shop. One of their skin care lines is called Dr. Belmeur, and it will include sensitive-skin moisturizers containing Cica.

Cica is more than just a trendy beauty ingredient—it’s known
to relieve irritated skin, strengthen the skin barrier and gently moisturize.
In fact, cica was named “tiger grass” after tigers were
discovered rolling in it to heal their wounds.

I tried it out, and I definitely give it the thumbs up! It’s not available to customers yet, but it will be soon! After I am done with my Anew Hydra Fusion Gel Cream, I am going to buy a full-size jar of Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica cream. You can join Avon’s mailing lists to know when it arrives!

I’m an Avon Indep. Sales Rep. With Sensitive Skin

I decided to start a blog that lets me explain why I like certain Avon products and for who each product is best for. Also, I like to share Avon beauty buzzes good deals as they come up.

I’m an Avon skin care enthusiast with sensitive, combination skin, melasma around my eyes and with medium color skin with pink undertone. I’m almost 40 years old, and yes, I use Avon products. Why? Because they are affordable and have great quality. (It’s just not sustainable to be dropping lots of money at Sephora or at high-end beauty shops every few months). As a women with sensitive skin, I have to be careful with which products I have to use. I’m not saying every Avon skin care product works well with my skin, but that’s one amazing thing about Avon – there is a lot to choose from based on your skin care needs. Plus, they are always working on bringing customers new, on-trend beauty products such as the Anew Hydra Fusion line AND Avon X The Face Shop.

My Avon shop offers free shipping on orders $40+ (no promo code needed). First-time customers get 10% off their order with prom code WELCOME10.
