I decided to start a blog that lets me explain why I like certain Avon products and for who each product is best for. Also, I like to share Avon beauty buzzes good deals as they come up.
I’m an Avon skin care enthusiast with sensitive, combination skin, melasma around my eyes and with medium color skin with pink undertone. I’m almost 40 years old, and yes, I use Avon products. Why? Because they are affordable and have great quality. (It’s just not sustainable to be dropping lots of money at Sephora or at high-end beauty shops every few months). As a women with sensitive skin, I have to be careful with which products I have to use. I’m not saying every Avon skin care product works well with my skin, but that’s one amazing thing about Avon – there is a lot to choose from based on your skin care needs. Plus, they are always working on bringing customers new, on-trend beauty products such as the Anew Hydra Fusion line AND Avon X The Face Shop.
My Avon shop offers free shipping on orders $40+ (no promo code needed). First-time customers get 10% off their order with prom code WELCOME10.
I’m a mom of a 5 year old son, and if you have kids or grandkids, you know that play dough doesn’t always get placed back into their containers then end up drying up overnight. Instead of taking a trip to the store with the kids, you can probably make your own play dough with what you have at home. Not just any play dough, but the super soft, non-sticky kind that won’t crumble. The recipe below makes a super soft play dough with a nice scent.
WARNING: This play dough is not suitable for kids that eat play dough!
I’m not going to tell you what should be your 3 top makeup must-haves, because it’s up to which makeup makes you feel confident enough to step out of the home. For me personally, it’s about the features of my face that feel most insecure about: the melasma around my eyes (caused by pregnancy), my thin eyebrows and my small mouth.
I have oily/combination skin with dry spots around my nose and mouth, and I have fine wrinkles around my eyes when I smile. I have medium skin tone and used to try to get away with just concealer and no foundation, but it doesn’t look natural. I have a hard time finding a concealer that matches my skin color exactly. I found that having a medium-to-full coverage foundation with a finish similar to my natural skin works best for my melasma and fine lines, because I can apply it to my entire face for an even skin tone and am able to cover my melasma without concealer. Foundations with a matte finish (when I am not wearing face primer) makes my fine lines more pronounced, so my ultimate choice is the Ink Lasting Liquid Foundation Slim Fit. It leaves a natural-skin finish, evens my discolored skin and doesn’t cake which is great for my fine lines and dry skin areas. PLUS, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin!
For some reason, I dislike doing my eyebrows even though it’s a MUST before I leave home. I choose to use the Glimmersticks Brow Definer, because it is waterproof, retractable (does not need sharpening) and applies easily.
I’d normally go for a tinted lip gloss (Avon True Color Lip Glow Lip Gloss) or lipstick (such as Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick or Mattitude Liquid Lipstick), but since COVID-19 broke out and face masks became mandatory in California, I don’t see the point of wearing lipstick unless I’m staying indoors. My lips get a little dry, so I love the Moisture Therapy Intensive Treatment Moisturizing Lip Treatment, because it has no flavor (in my opinion) and moisturizes for a long time without stickiness .
It’s April 5, 2020, and I live in Los Angeles County in California. California Governor Newsom has ordered Californians to stay at home in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Parks, beaches, schools, libraries, malls and other public places are closed. Only essential businesses are open.
If you’re like me, you are trying your best to be a trooper (even though I really miss being outside and being with friends & relatives) during this COVID-19 pandemic by staying home as much as possible and only going out to get essential items [and to walk/exercise where no one is around].
What’s it like going to the market during the COVID-19 lockdown?
Since the market only wants a small amount of people inside the market simultaneously, I have to stand in line outside Vons market (6 feet apart from people) in order to get my turn to shop inside the market and quickly purchase what my family needs if there are any inventory left (lots of empty shelves and slim pickings). We can now only purchase 1 or 2 quantities per item due to some individuals hoarding supplies. I wear a mask and sanitize my hands often. I use my own grocery bags, but the bagger won’t touch my bags, so I have to bag my grocery at my car. Once I get home, I wash my hands for 20 seconds and disinfect my purse, shoes, and each grocery item. It’s a tedious process, and sometimes I ask myself, “Am I still in U.S.A.?“
Which essential items can Avon ship direct to my home?
Even online stores are out-of-stock of many essential items. Before you go on a supply run to the market, checkout my Avon E-store to find some of what you need. Your order will be shipped direct to your home. Free shipping on orders $60+. No promo code needed.
It seems like in the U.S. (mostly based on all the current makeup looks that I see on Instagram or social media these days), a face with a matte finish (with highlights on the cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow) is trendy. In South Korea, the dewy finish or “glass skin” is trending. So which one is better? No matter what the trend is, choose a finish that works best for your skin.
What’s the difference between matte and dewy finish?
A foundation with a matte finish leaves your skin looking velvety or powdered – it doesn’t leave a shine or reflect light. You don’t need to set the foundation with powder, but you can use a setting spray (optional).
A foundation with a dewy finish leaves your skin looking moisturized, radiant and glowing. The dewy finish is youthful. You can set the foundation use a setting powder (to make it less dewy) or setting spray.
How do you know which finish to choose?
It all comes down to your skin type.
Choose matte if your skin is:
Oily or shiney
Doesn’t need added moisture
Choose a dewy finish if your skin is:
Dry and needs added moisture
Has imperfections or fine lines that need to be softened

When my brother came back to California from visiting South Korea, he brought me a pack of face sheet masks. I didn’t know what the big deal was about these sheet masks, so I put them in my cabinet and forgot about them. I thought they were a gimmick.
What are face sheet masks?
Face sheet masks are semi-permeable fabric drenched in serum and with 3 holes for your eyes and nose. They are individually packaged in an airtight, heat-sealed package with extra serum so that mask stays juicy.
Finally Tried a Face Sheet Mask
The year is 2020 and the weather has been cool and dry (February), and Avon is now carrying face sheet masks from South Korea. My face was feeling a little dry, so I decided to finally use a sheet mask since they seem very hydrating.
The first Avon X The Face Shop sheet mask I used was the The Solution Pore Care Sheet Mask. I used it right before going to bed. I followed the instructions and tips in the following video:
I smoothed the extra serum from the package onto my décolleté and the back of my hands. The serum on my décolleté and hands dried within a minute, but the the mask kept my face hydrated with the serum for 10 minutes. The mask felt cooling, hydrating and soothing on my face. After I removed the mask, I let the serum on my face dry. I did NOT wash or wipe my face.
My face was left feeling hydrated, supple and glowing. The mask definitely made my face absorb more serum than the areas that had no sheet mask (my décolleté and the back of my hands). It was like a quick, simple in-home facial. The sebum in my nose pores were so hydrated or more liquified (instead of being more solid/hard) that squeezing my nose lightly made them sebum slip out of my pores. I went to bed after the serum dried on my face and did not wake up with skin irritation or acne breakouts. I’m really glad that I gave the sheet mask a try. I’m going to use it twice a week.
Clean, green and serene. Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a compound extracted from hemp, which contains lots of good stuff like vitamins A, D, E and essential fatty acids. Our THC-free, non-GMO CBD is sustainably sourced from domestically grown hemp and we used the entire hemp plant in this product (stalk, seeds, stem, leaves, flowers) – so no part went to waste. FYI, our collection does NOT contain THC. The only high you’ll get is knowing your skin feels cool, calm and collected.

Today, Feb 4, 2020, is World Cancer Day. Do you have a story to share?
The closest I have ever come close to cancer is my cousin being shockingly diagnosed with leukemia at age 32! No one else in our family has ever had cancer. I hear about cancer frequently, but never knew the symptoms or knew what it was like. For my cousin, it all started with a lower back pain. He did complain to me about back pain over lunch while he was visiting California from Boston, but I thought it was due to becoming “older” and sitting at the office for long periods.
The back pain was persisted when he went back to Boston, so he went to a doctor, and the doctor thought it was just a common back pain. (Who would think, “Cancer?!”)
My cousin went back to work, and he still felt pain in his back. His co-workers encouraged him to visit another doctor or hospital to get it checked, again. Thankfully, he went to another doctor/hospital, and they ran some tests. Eventually, he was diagnosed with leukemia. What?! Our whole family was shocked! My cousin is living in Boston, and the rest of the family is in California and Wisconsin. His mother, brother and fiancee went to visit him and help keep his spirits up, because he couldn’t come to our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas family potluck.
My is currently in a 2 year treatment program which includes chemotherapy. His co-workers come to visit him frequently, and they are so sweet to help him with all the paperwork involved when one can’t work for a while.
