December 16, 2020 – I normally shed a lot of hair in the shower. My hair has gotten thinner over the years. (I’m almost 40 years old). I have medium-length, virgin, Asian hair that is normal (not oily and not dry), yet I still shed a lot of hair! Here are some scalp and hair care tips that have helped reduce my hair shedding and produce NEW hair growth.
Cleansing

My scalp and hair care begins with washing. I normally wash my hair every other day since I do not have an oily scalp. I use a hair growth and thickening shampoo such as Dr. Groot Microbiome Scalp Fortifying Hair Thickening Shampoo.
When I look for hair growth shampoos, I look for ingredients targeted for my scalp. My individual hair strands are thick. I just need more hair on my scalp! I look for a shampoo that cleans build-up and sebum on my scalp and from the hair follicles. It should also contain ingredients to stimulate, moisturize, and improve scalp health as well as vitamins needed to grow thick hair.
I soak my hair with luke warm water (cold water is better, but I get cold) then apply the shampoo, focusing on massaging the shampoo into my roots and scalp for 1 minute with my silicone scalp brush or shampoo brush (scroll down further for photo). If I don’t have my silicone scalp brush, I massage my scalp with the pads of my finger tips while avoiding using my finger nails which have bacteria underneath the bed. I want to make sure my scalp is cleansed and the blood is circulating in my scalp. Aftwards, I rinse with luke warm water (cold water is better).
Benefits of Dr. Groot Microbiome Scalp Fortifying Hair Thickening Shampoo:
• Infused with para-probiotics and prebiotics, it helps restore your scalp’s invisible microbiome shield of healthy flora for healthier scalp and hair
• With natural ginger and ginseng to help soothe redness and itching and biotin and caffeine to help thicken hair
• No sulfates, parabens, or silicones
• Use products individually or as part of regimen
Treatment

After cleansing my scalp and hair, the next thing I do in the shower is apply the Dr. Groot Microbiome Scalp Fortifying Serum Treatment directly to my scalp. The narrow nozzle makes it easy to apply the serum directly to the scalp. The serum has a light scent, is clear and is moisturizing like a hair conditioner but is thinner than a hair conitioner. I massage my scalp with the silicone scalp brush for 1 minute.

Then I apply CHI Essentials Moisturizing Conditioner to the rest of my hair (avoiding the scalp and roots). I gently finger-comb the hair conditioner through my strands to distribute the hair conditioner and to remove loose hair. I finger-comb starting from the ends of my hair while working my way up towards my head. I let the hair conditioner stay in my hair for 1 minute.
Finally, I rinse my scalp and hair with luke warm water (cold water is better). When I’m done taking a shower, I squeeze excess water out of my hair before stepping out to towel dry. I towel dry my hair by squeezing the towel around my hair. I don’t rub the towel on my hair, because that can damage my hair while it is in a fragile, wet state. I let my hair air dry.
If you use minoxidil, you can use it with the above treatment. Apply the minoxidil to clean scalp when the hair is dry everyday. Optional: Use a derma roller on your scalp before applying minoxidil for increased absorbtion. Derma roller should only be used once a week, should be sanitized before each use and replaced every 2 months.
Vitamin D stimulates your follicles, and biotin supplements improves the health of your hair and nails. If your physician says it is ok, take your vitamins!
